2012?
Lots of action on our YouTube channel in the past few days - here’s one more piece: one of the three short video commentaries which appeared in TRNSMSSN, now up on YouTube. What say you?

And here’s a short animated piece we did for TRNSMSSN - called “Highway”. The track on the piece appeared on our demo EP, “The Light Fantastic” (not available anywhere - he, he!). It features guitar work by our good friend Livingstone Katingima. What d’you think?
Greetings, earthlings!
Here now, the music video for “If I Could”, another single from Scratch To Reveal. This one was ready a month ago, but we had to wait for TRNSMSSN to end so we could show it to everyone else. It stars Kevin “K2″ Maina and Patricia Kihoro - who were very cool about coming over to our house to act out their daily routines.
Props, ideas and general help were provided by Njoki Ngumi and Mbithi Masya (Thanks, guys!).
We hope you like it!

In 5 days’ time, TRNSMSSN will close. Just a Band (as their alter egos, DJ Ponyox, Nairobi Dhobi and DJ Bonyeza Kidude) shall mark the closing with END_TRNSMSSN: lights, color and a DJ-set of our favorite house, electro, pop and funk tunes.
Saturday 16 May, from 8.00 pm at the Goethe-Institut Auditorium. Entry is free! Facebook users can RSVP here.
Note: We’re not performing live this night, we’re just the house DJs for the night. Think of it as a Just A Band hanye…
Here’s a snippet of a documentary of our recent “Walkers and Workers” gig that was done by Katrina Ender. Thank you very much, Katrina!

TRNSMSSN opens today! It runs from the 5th to the 15th of May from 11am - 6pm every Monday to Friday at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi (Maendeleo House, Loita/Monrovia Street).

Broken synthesizers and fragmented satellite broadcasts from the future provide a fictionalized Kenyan future; panicked astronauts, lovelorn puppets, a flying tortoise, the meaning of life, an experimental boy band and a sprinkling of sparkly stuff…
The Goethe-Institut Nairobi has commissioned Just A Band with works of video art for our first art show - TRNSMSSN: (we know - who’d have thought?!).
The show runs from Tuesday May 5, 2009 to Saturday May 16, 2009 at the Goethe-Institut Nairobi Auditorium (Maendeleo House, Loita/Monrovia Street, Nairobi) and will feature premieres of new music videos from Scratch To Reveal and our soon-to-be-released second album - 82.
Just A Band will mark the finissage on Saturday May 16, 2009 with END_TRNSMSSN , a DJ set of our favorite house, electro, pop and funk tunes. Entry free. Facebook users can RSVP here.
We were informed yesterday that an event dubbed the “True Story” Cocktail this Friday at the Stanley had used the caption “Entertainment by Just A Band”. We’d just like to clarify that we are NOT performing at this event, there was some strange mix-up.
Sorry for anyone who was planning to see us live. All our gigs are prominently discussed here and on our Facebook page weeks in advance.
Cheers, everyone!!
Interesting review of Scratch To Reveal here. 4.5 out of 5 stars!
Thanks, Kenya Christian!
Update: An interesting review of “Iwinyo Piny” here. And here’s an article about our recent “Walkers and Workers” show.
Our house is abuzz once more - we’re back in the studio to record our second album - which will be titled 82. If you’re wondering why it’ll be called 82, it’s because 1982 was an extremely good year. Sample this:
March 10th - Syzygy, all 9 planets aligned on the same side of the Sun.
July 6 - the longest lunar eclipse of the 20th century occurs (umbral duration 236min).
August 17 - The first compact discs (CDs) are released to the public in Germany.
September 19 - The first emoticons are posted by Scott Fahlman.
October 1 - Sony launches the first consumer compact disc player (model CDP-101).
October 12 - The Double Stuff Oreo is first sold. Mmmmm.
November 30 - Michael Jackson releases Thriller, the biggest selling album of all time.
December 4 - The People’s Republic of China adopts its current constitution.
Also, the three of us were born.
More on the album as we go.
